Inductive Reactance formula

Inductive reactance formula is used to calculate the inductance of circuit with the change in frequency. In DC electrical circuits the current flowing through any circuit depends on the amount of resistance present in the circuit. In inductive circuits, the opposition to current flow is measured in terms of inductive reactance. Unlike dc, this reactance depends on the frequency. The basic equation which relates reactance to frequency is:

XL = 2 π fL

One interesting thing which should be noticed is that for f=0, the reactance is zero and thus we have a short circuit.

Example: Find the reactance of 10 mH inductors at 50 Hz.

Solution: f = 2 * 3.1416 * 50 * 10 * 10-3 = 3.1516 Hz
