Maximum Demand [Power Systems]

The maximum demand is the highest demand of load which occurs at a power system during a specific instant.

The electrical load at a power system is variable in nature. It continuously changes with the time. The maximum demand indicates the highest number of units that are consumed by the user.

Let’s consider the yearly load curve of a power station:

The maximum demand (MD) of 7 MW occurs in the month of September.

MD plays a major role in the design of power station. Since a power station should meet the maximum demand.

MD is also analyzed on the daily, weekly, and monthly basis. The figure below displays another example of weekly load curve.
